The meaning of the crew positions
and
how to advance
Swabbie.
Swabbies are the lowest ranked members of our crew. All new crew members start as
Swabbies. To be admitted to our crew a two thirds majority vote is required.
  In order to become a Swabbie you must be sponsored by a full crew member. That crew
member is responsible for your actions. If you do good and bring honor the your self, you
bring honor to your sponcer...But if you dishonor yourself you dishonor your sponsor and
they will face the same punishment with you.

Swabbies receive one half share of prize and vote.
The Crew ( able Seamen )
The requirements to become a Crew member are as follows
1) being of a minimum age of 13
2) the completion of a special task set forth by the Senior Officers

The Crew is the main body of the ship, as such the day to day tasks of running the Ship fall
to them. All fighters shall insure there weapons and armor are in good working order and
there weapons cards and wavers are not out of date. All Crew are responsible to make sure
they are familiar with our articles and will endeavor to teach the articles to the newer
members of our Crew

All Crew shall receive one share of prize and vote
Junior Officers ( Ensigns and Cabin Boy )

Ensigns
The requirements to become an Ensign are as follows
1) have your SCA name and badge / device under submission
2) the completion of a special task set forth by the Senior Officers

Ensigns are responsible for overseeing the aria of the ship they are assigned. If you are
assigned to the galley its your responsibility to insure the galley clean and ready for use, if
you are assigned to the deck make sure it is clear of obstructions.


Cabin Boys
the Cabin Boy is appointed by the Captain and as such is exempt from the Junior Officer
requirements. The Cabin Boy is encouraged to get there name and badge / device
submitted

The Cain Boy is a slightly higher rank than Ensigns and there for if there are no higher
ranked Officers present, it is there responsibility to take command

The Cabin Boy is the assistant to the Captain, and the Captains representative, as such the
Cabin Boy is held to a higher code of conduct than his peers. Any dishonorable act not only
reflects bad on him, but also directly reflects on the Captain


All Junior Officers receive one and one half shares of prise and vote
Officers ( Boatswains and Lieutenants )
Boatswains
The requirements to become a Boatswain are as follows
1) your name and badge / device must be approved through the SCA college of Heralds
2) the completion of a task set forth by the Senior Officers
3) have entered an arts and science competition or preforms in some official capacity for the
    ship.

Boatswains are the skilled laborers of the ship. They are the carpenters, surgeons,
brewers, and bards. They repair the ship and crew after a battle and entertain us while we
consume the food and drink they have prepared.

Lieutenants
The requirements for promotion to Lieutenant are as follows
1) name and badge / device approved through the SCA college of Heralds
2) must be an authorised fighter
3) have completed a task set forth by the Senior Officers

Lieutenants are responsible for representing The Errant Venture on the filed  of battle
and assisting in the training of the fighters among the Crew. They will insure all there
weapons are in good repair and meet the minimum armor requirements set forth by SCA
and Kingdom standards
Master Gunner
The requirements for promotion to Master Gunner are as follows
1) name and badge / device must be approved through the SCA college of Heralds
2) must be an authorised fighter ( both hard suite and rapier )
3) the position is appointed by the Captain and Quartermaster

The Master Gunner is responsible for the defence of the ship, as such it is his duty to
insure that all guns are clean, swords are sharp and free from rust, and all fighters have up
to date wavers and authorization cards. The Master Gunner is also responsible for
inspecting all armor and weapons for damage and is to insure everyone meets all Society
armor requirements.
Quartermaster
The requirements to become the Quartermaster are as follows
1) name and badge / device must be approved through the SCA College of Heralds
2) must be an authorised fighter ( both hard suite and rapier )
3) the position is appointed by a majority vote of the crew but must include the Captains vote

The Quartermaster is the second in command of the ship and is out ranked by only the
Captain. The Quartermaster must be familiar with every aspect of the ship and be prepared
to do everything from scrapping barnacles from the hull and cleaning the bilge to taking
command of the ship in the event the Captain is not present or is unable to lead
Captain
The requirements to become Captain are as follows
1) name and badge / device must be approved through the SCA College of Heralds
2) must be an authorised fighter ( both hard suite and rapier )
3) the position is chosen by a unanimous vote of the crew

The Captain is the Master and Commander of the ship. It is the Captains responsibility
encompasses  every aspect of running the ship. The Captain must be a master tactician, a
navigator, a diplomat, and a leader. The Captain must be able to make decisions in the heat
of battle that will affect the lives of every one on board ship, and must see to the welfare of
the crew. It is the Captains duty to ensure there is a place for everyone and that the ship
has enough provision for every person on board.
Bilge rats
Bilge Rats are those members of the crew that are to young to take active membership on
board the ship. They are our smalls...
At the age of 13 Bilge Rats are given a choice on whether to join the ship as full Crew
members
Bilge Rats do not have a vote on the ship but are encouraged to make their presence
known, and attend all ship functions.
The Bilge Rats parents are by default their sponsor if they are already members of the
crew, if not the
ir Sponsor is the same person who sponsored their parents
